Làm khi nhìn về kinh đô lúc hoa anh đào nở

Nhìn từ phía xa xa
những mành tơ liễu biếc
như đan vào nhành hoa:
kinh đô khi xuân đến
là gấm thêu lụa là.

Seen from a distance
willow and cherry blossoms
all interminggled:
the imperial city
in truth a springtime brocade.

yanagi sakura o
kokimazete
miyako zo haru no
nishiki narikeru

みわたせば柳櫻をこぎまぜて宮こぞ春の錦なりける

Than vãn về tuổi già dưới bóng hoa anh đào

Như chưa hề nhạt phai
mùi hương và màu sắc
của anh đào trên cây,
nhưng thế nhân kia mãi
đổi thay theo tháng ngày.

In color and scent
they are probably the same
as blossoms of old,
but human beings must change
with the passing of the years.

the person who sought and broke
flowering branches
from the mountain cherry tree
the spring haze sought to conceal?

harugasumi
tachikakusuramu
yama no sakura o

誰しかも尋めておりつる春霞立かくす覧山のさくらを

must be at their glorious best,
for in the valleys
lying between the mountains
white clouds have come to view.

blossomimg in the mountains
of fair Yoshino
betrayed by unwary eyes,
we mistake them for snowflakes.
